Symbiont’s Geothermal Work On Anna Maria Island Featured In Energy Efficiency & Technology Magazine

Anna Maria Island is going green – and Symbiont Service Corp is helping the community reach that goal. With geothermal heating and cooling technology, the new Green Villageproject, set for completion in 2012, plans to equalize the net effect of energy consumption. In fact, the Village will not only reach its goal of a zero carbon footprint—it will create more energy than it needs.

Symbiont Service Corp, an HVAC contractor specializing in geothermal heating and cooling systems, was featured recently in Energy Efficiency & Technology for its participation in the Green Village project. For its part, Symbiont Service Corp has installed a geothermal heating and cooling ground-water loop to provide comprehensive cooling for the facility, including freezers and refrigerators for the onsite café, as well as ice machines.

The Village project is ambitious, but its goals are well within reach with geothermal heating and cooling technology. The project seeks to create a wholly dependent community of commercial and retail buildings that generates energy solely through geothermal and solar technologies. Indeed, it will be the very first Zero Net Energy and LEED-certified community in Florida awarded Energy Star’s Platinum status.

The project, a brainchild of Mike and Lizzie Thrasher, includes taking neglected properties and restoring them. The project will result in the Anna Maria Historic Green Village and span five plots of land on the city’s main street, Pine Avenue. While the project is lauded for its refurbishing of old, derelict properties, it’s not limited to reusing and recycling old properties. These plans will build on green foundations by creating energy through renewable resources, solar and geothermal, and eventually become a draw to revive downtown business and generate foot traffic. Ambitious indeed, but businesses are drawn to the Village’s goals, and it plans to house a medical center, art gallery, retail spaces, professional services and garden spaces.

It’s true that great minds coming together can create a viable vision, and Symbiont Service Corp.is proud to be a part of the vision of the Green Village, with its geothermal heating and cooling installation helping to reach sustainability and engage a community.
