Air Filters: Just Because It’s Winter In Florida, Don’t Think That They Get A Break
It may be winter in Florida, but that doesn’t mean your air filter should be off duty. Indoor air quality is a year-round concern, and your air filters are your first line of defense in the fight.
Whether air is cooled or warmed by your HVAC system, it passes through the air handler and the air filter. On the chance your home needs no temperature adjustment at all, you should still ensure your indoor air is circulating, which means it will still be passing through the air filter.
Air filters trap particles in your indoor air. They accumulate layers of dirt, dust and debris because its what they are designed to do. However, as they do it, they steadily lose efficiency. A clogged filter can’t trap contaminants, which means they have nowhere to go except to collect in your HVAC system itself, and to build up in higher concentrations in your living space.
The primary reason that HVAC systems fail is because the equipment, particularly the air filters, have been neglected. You should check them at least once a month for optimum performance.
Clean air filters:
- Remove the maximum amount of contaminants from your air, such as dust, pet dander, viruses and bacteria, mold spores, allergens and possibly even molecules from odors and fumes.
- Improve air circulation.
- Optimize distribution of conditioned air so all rooms are kept more comfortable.
- Keep utility bills manageable by decreasing the amount of energy your HVAC system consumes and maximizing efficiency.
- Reduce your carbon footprint.
- Help keep all system components conditioned and efficient, reducing the need for repairs and the potential for a costly premature breakdown.
- Decrease your home’s overall energy consumption, thereby reducing the country’s dependence on foreign fossil fuels.
