Got Access To A Lake? Geothermal Lake Systems Can Drive Energy Costs Down
Throughout Florida and the Suncoast, swimming pools and spas at homes, condominium and apartment complexes, recreation areas and public institutions must be maintained at a usable temperature. The energy required for this pool heating can be a major expense. Costs can be trimmed substantially, sometimes 80 percent or more, by using geothermal energy as a source of heat. Geothermal lake systems are a reliable source of cost-saving energy to use for pool heating needs large or small.
Water-source geothermal heating such as geothermal lake systems work by capturing heat from a lake with a relatively consistent temperature and moving that heat to the water from your pool. Heat is captured and transported by refrigerant that moves through a network of pipes, absorbing and releasing heat as it changes from a liquid to a gas and back again.
In a geothermal lake system, the cycle begins when the thermostat detects that the pool water has cooled and requires heating. Water is pumped from the source lake and into the geothermal pool heater. Inside the pool heater, heat is extracted from the lake water by the refrigerant system. Once sufficient amounts of heat have been removed, the water is pumped back into the lake.
While this is happening, water from your swimming pool is pumped out of the pool, through the filter and into the heating system. If the water needs to be warmed up, heat from the lake water is transferred to the pool water. The heated water is then circulated back into your pool. The heating and pump systems shut off when the water reaches the desired temperature. Water from the pool and water from the lake never mingle or mix within the system; only heat is transferred.
