Symbiont Service Corp.’s NATE Certification Ensures Quality Work
If your HVAC contractor hires technicians with NATE certification, you’ll know more than a thing or two about the person who comes into your home to service your equipment. Almost anyone, from a local jack-of-all-trades to a relative with a toolbox, may claim to have the skills and expertise to work on the high-technology incorporated in today’s heating and cooling equipment. Only NATE-certified technicians can prove it and have the backing of the entire HVAC industry.
North American Technician Excellence (NATE) is a nonprofit program launched in 1997 by the industry to certify the competence of field technicians employed by HVAC contractors. Over the past 15 years, 30,000 field technicians—the front line of the industry—have been certified. Candidates for NATE certification must demonstrate their expertise by passing a comprehensive exam covering heating and cooling theory and mechanical skills. This is followed by a second round of testing in one of the specialized subjects relating to HVAC technology. It doesn’t stop there: Technicians certified by NATE are required to keep abreast on HVAC subjects by completing at least 60 hours of classroom education over the next five years.
Here are some of the benefits from using technicians with NATE certification:
- NATE technicians aren’t learning on the job. They arrive with the skills to get the job done right the first time. Call-backs are an inconvenience for the homeowner and an expense for the contractor.
- Homeowners can be certain that their heating and cooling equipment is working at maximum efficiency for optimal performance and energy savings.
- Service by NATE-certified technicians meets the standards required to keep the manufacturer’s warranty on air conditioners and furnaces in effect.
- Furnaces and other heating equipment utilize an open flame and can produce dangerous levels of carbon monoxide. Safety is the first priority of NATE-certified technicians, and they have the training and specialized technology to make sure your system is operating at the highest standard of safety.
