Is Your Solar System Working?
Is Your Solar System Working? That may sound like an odd question, right? If the sun is shining, it’s probably working? In a
sense, yes but the solar system and geothermal professionals from Symbiont Service Corp know there is more to a properly working solar system than that.
How can you tell if your solar system is operating at its optimal efficiency and effectiveness? Schedule an inspection of the system to assure your system is still saving you money, helping the environment and operating effectively.
Is Your Solar System Working?
When we come to inspect the system we will be checking:
- The storage tanks that hold the hot water the solar panels generated. We will check that there is no rust or no leaks from the tanks.
- The solar collectors, those panels that harness the energy from the sun, store it and are used in your heating system, will be checked next. If the sun isn’t shining directly on these panels for the majority of the day, your home will not be generating as much energy as it could, and should, be. You will want to make sure there are no trees or bushes or any new construction that is blocking the panels. Pay attention, throughout the day, to any shadows that are fallowing over the solar collectors.
- Make sure the solar collectors are free of dust and debris. Call a solar technician if you notice any chips or cracks in any of the panels.
- Pay attention to whether the blowers or pumps that distribute the heated air or water are working when the sun is shining. If you don’t hear any noise, call a technician.
- Environmental concerns with your solar panels include sun and rain damage. If the roof flashing or sealant become damaged, you will want to call a technician. Your technician will inspect the integrity of the insulation of the system. He will assure no nuts or bolts have become loose or are rusting.
- The system’s antifreeze will need to be changed occasionally. Your technician, when he changes the antifreeze, will inspect the system’s valves and dampers to ensure they are working as they should.
- The Florida sunshine. Having a solar system in Florida makes sense because of the strong sunshine. This can be a double-edged sword, though as the strong sun can negatively impact the lifespan of the solar system. To keep your solar system viable as long as possible, make certain you call one of our qualified technicians to periodically inspect it.
