Hurricane Irma Preparation Tips
A message from the team at Symbiont Service Corp to all our valued customers
In light of the potential of Hurricane Irma making landfall in Florida, we want our customers to know that the pool heaters are physically secured with hurricane straps as per local building code. In case of a storm surge, we recommend that you turn off all high voltage power sources to pool heaters and pumps. i.e. circuit breakers.
Hurricane Irma Preparation Tips
Here are some detailed hurricane preparation recommendations from CES (Commercial Energy Specialists in Jupiter, FL) Download their useful preparation checklist here.
- Lower the water levels in your swimming pools between three and twelve inches in order to accommodate any heavy rainfall.
- Do not completely drain your swimming pool. If you do this, you run the risk of your pool rising out of the ground, which could damage the plumbing and electrical elements.
- Don’t operate the circulation pump after lowering the pool water levels to avoid pump damage.
- Add additional chlorine (super chlorinate) to prevent water contamination. Ask your pool contractor for advice.
- Wrap any exposed equipment with waterproof covers and secure tightly.
- Turn off all electricity to the pool equipment, from the breakers, not at the pool pump.
- Store or tie down all pool furniture to prevent it from become airborne because it could damage property or your swimming pool. Do not throw your pool furniture into the swimming pool as the chlorine can damage it and the furniture’s sharp edges could damage the pool.
- Lower umbrellas, remove fabric patio awnings and bring them indoors to prevent tears.
- If you have a concern that the pool water has been contaminated by flood waters or overflow water because of the hurricane, test the water before using it.
- If you’re going to ride out the storm, make certain you have enough water and non perishable foods for all members of your family, including the family pets. You should stock up on at least three days worth of food and water for each family member.
- If you evacuate your home, don’t drive through standing water because you don’t know how deep it is and the rushing waters carry strong currents.
Our thoughts and prayers are with all of our Florida neighbors in light of the potential of Hurricane Irma making landfall. From our families to yours: Please be safe!
